These days, companies demand to have the unique job title you are hoping to apply for - but a general resume fails to show this. In addition, they quickly want to find out what positively distinguishes you - but a general resume makes you appear the same as the flood of general resumes they've already seen submitted.

Avoid losing the job offering by submitting a general resume! All a general resume does, is show how you look no better than anyone else - not how you outpace your competitors for the same position.

You should confirm that the cover letter hooks your potential company, reassures them, plus entices them to go through your resume so they can choose you for the interview. With the immense flood of resumes sent to every work offer nowadays, an expertly-written cover letter commonly becomes the leading distinguishing factor between whether you win an interview - or get trashed into the garbage!

In today's job market, employers do not go through every one of the 400 or higher resumes dumped on them - for each employment posting! The truth is, they will gladly toss aside 95 of them, if that resume does not manage to win the reader's attention.

In the previous century, job seekers were lectured that your resume should include a group of bullet-point duties and responsibilities for every employment we have ever occupied - and the bigger the list the better. No longer! Today, companies will only devote 15 seconds (possibly much less) when glancing through your resume. Don't follow the duties and responsibilities resume template!

Resume phrases as for example "team player", are damaging. They make you sound cliche and do not put you in a positive way. This is also true for a statement such as "reliable". The best text emphasize what you achieved while at your previous employment and how beneficial you are going to be to this prospective hiring decision-maker.

Most job searchers don't know that four of every five available jobs (and specifically virtually all of the highest-paying employment), are only accessible inside the "hidden" career market. So the power pathway to improving your pay level, is to learn about the most common reasons the most wanted jobs are "posted" via this hidden employment market, but almost never the tiny public or internet employment market.

Current companies do not pay attention to each of the 400 plus resumes they get - for each employment opening! In actual fact, they will instantly discard 90 of them, if that resume does nothing to capture the reader's interest.
