Amazon hat am gestrigen Abend sein diesjähriges Devices & Services Event veranstaltet und bei dieser Gelegenheit verschiedene neue Hardware-Produkte vorgestellt, bei denen vor allem das Thema künstliche Intelligenz kräftig ausgebaut werden soll. Unter anderem wird auch Amazon künftig verstärkt auf eine lokale Auswertung von Alexa-Sprachbefehlen setzen, was einen besseren Datenschutz verspricht. Eines der neuen Geräte, die mit dieser Funktion ausgestattet sein werden ist der neue Echo Show 15. Wie bereits am Namen ablesbar, wird das Gerät über ein 15 Zoll (genau genommen 15,6") Display verfügen und sich unter anderem auch als digitaler Bilderrahmen nutzen lassen. Amazon bewirbt das Gerät als zentralen Hub für die Smarthome-Steuerung, der sich auch per Wandhalterung fest in einem Raum anbringen lässt. Über eine "Visual ID" getaufte Funktion kann er Nutzer erkennen und ihnen personalisierte Inhalte anzeigen. Amazon hat die Verfügbarkeit des Echo Show 15 in den USA für später im Jahr und den Preis mit 249,- Dollar angekündigt. Zum Deutschland-Start und den hiesigen Preisen liegen noch keine Informationen vor.

Auch ein neues smartes Thermostat hat Amazon vorgestellt. Während die Funktion eines solchen Geräts keinen Spielraum für große Revolutionen hergibt, sorgt vor allem der Preis für Aufsehen. Die angekündigten 59,- US-Dollar müssen definitiv als Kampfpreis bezeichnet werden. Dies gilt ein Stück weit auch für das neue Sportarmband Halo View, für das Amazon 79,- Dollar verlangen wird. Im Preis enthalten ist auch der Zugriff auf Amazons Fitness+ Pendant "halo Fitness" für ein Jahr.

Wohl eher als Konzept mit Zukunftspotenzial muss man hingegen den Echo-Roboter Astro bezeichnen - allerdings als äußerst spannendes. Beim Astro handelt es sich um einen sich selbständig auf zwei Rädern fortbewegenden kleinen Roboter, der über einen Touchscreen und eine ausfahrbare Kamera verfügt. Hierüber können beispielsweise Videotelefonate geführt werden, die vom Astro in den eigenen vier Wänden automatisch zum Angerufenen überbracht werden. Genauso folgt einem der Roboter während man das Videotelefonat führt. Selbstverständlich versteht sich Astro aber auch auf alle anderen Funktionen, die Amazons Echo-Geräte anbieten. Zum Start wird der Astro nur ausgewählten Kunden angeboten und soll dann 999,- US-Dollar kosten. Man darf gespannt sein, ob die Welt schon bereit für ein solches Gerät ist. Mich erinnert es irgendwie an eine erste Ausbaustufe der Haushaltsroboter aus "I, Robot".
