Jul 25: How to activate Facebook for iPad [UPDATE]
The iPad version of Facebooks iOS-App is actually already available and hidden inside the iPhone version as discovered by TechCrunch. Knowing this, every iPad user may already use this version on their device with a little trick. Here is a walkthrough how to activate the iPad interface on your device:
First of all you will need the free iPhone Explorer (download here). After that, follow these steps:
- connect your iPad to your computer
- install the iPhone version of the Facebook app on your iPad
- fire up the downloaded iPhone Explorer; your connected iPad should be listed there
- inside iPhone Explorer open the Facebook folder under "Apps"
- navigate to the subfolder called "Facebook.app" and open it
- copy the file "info.plist" to your desktop and open it (you may want to use TextWrangler or Xcode, both available for free on the Mac AppStore)
- change the value of "UIDeviceFamily" to "2" (or download and use this info.plist)
- copy "info.plist" back to your iPad via iPhone Explorer (replace the old version)
- DONE
- (you might have to reboot your device)

UPDATE: For those of you who don’t get it to work, try this:
- delete the facebook app from your iPad and reinstall it from the app store or via iTunes
- after that follow my instructions from above and keep the info.plist on your desktop
- after you have copied the modified info.plist back to the iPad, reboot it
- after the reboot the app should crash everytime you try to launch it
- now change the value in the info.plist file on your desktop back to 1 and copy it again back to the iPad
- that should do the trick
